Birdy's more modern TV series incarnation is much better known, but here is where the alien-fightin'-space-cop sharing-a-body-with-a-human-civilian shenanigans all began. As is the case with a lot of Birdy media this OAV finishes out with the promise of more story to tell yet still has plenty of entertaining action within to satisfy a modern audience. All this plus a little grumbling about Kawajiri falling victim to the whims of the domestic market!

The first traditionally animated feature from Dreamworks sought to challenge the might of Disney with a biblical epic full of fantastic scenery, musical interludes and a classic tale of brother against brother. Being an Old Testament adaptation the film is compelled to hit on all the familiar points from the original story with varying degrees of success, but the more personal struggle of two siblings on opposite sides of a divide enhances it and provides a much greater level of emotional investment.
