Niall checked up on Brian and Antony over on Dynamite In The Brain to see how they're coping during all this, only to find them once again in a state of imagined reminiscence for cartoons they could have been enjoying in their youth were it not for those pesky geographic barriers. This edition is more highbrow than most with not one but two literary adaptations; a fairly straight World Masterpiece Theatre joint in 1986's The Story Of Pollyanna, Girl Of Love and Herman Melville making the logical progression to outer space in 1997's Hakugei: Legend Of The Moby Dick, while 1996's Violinist Of Hamelin provides a nice classical music accompaniment that sounds better than it looks. SOTSM x Christmas Creeps: Klaus

Christmas may have only just come and gone scarcely a month ago but cartoons are for the whole year round! Niall and Dwayne had a cosy get-together with Joseph Wade to melt all over Sergio Pablos' paean to traditional animation about the world's worst postman birthing the myth of Santa Claus and inadvertently spreading kindness, compassion and goodwill to a world sorely in need of it. The irony of altruism arising only as a result of nakedly materialistic motivations is not lost on us while discussing this Netflix-backed venture, but if it leads to more opportunities to uplift the medium of animation like this then it's a feat of mental gymnastics we're willing to perform!

SOTSM x DITB: The Anime That Didn’t Make Us #7 – Lupin III Part 3, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Nadesico

Dwayne Moloney, podcast man-about-town, took a trip back in time with Dynamite In The Brain to pore over anime titles of days past that could have been formative experiences in their youth were it not for pesky things like geographical barriers or their absence from terrestrial television. Getting the hypothetical nostalgia treatment this time around are the unfairly maligned Lupin The Third Part 3, the Giant Robo casting department that is Mitsuteru Yokayama's adaptation of Romance Of The Three Kingdoms and the dense mecha satire/homage Martian Successor Nadesico. Those were the good old days! (maybe)

Those jolly japesters Joseph and Bradford over at Christmas Creeps recently bestowed upon us the honour of coming on their venerable podcast about festive films all year round to talk up some Satoshi Kon and his heartwarming homeless holiday classic Tokyo Godfathers. Haikus are composed, records (and hearts) are broken and our hosts receive a crash course in the last twenty years of Japanese socio-political issues via the medium of anime! Our own Dwayne has a life outside this podcast you know, and you'll get to hear about some of it on a whole other podcast as he joins the Dynamite In The Brain boys for a trip down the memory lane that could have been if certain anime titles were available to them in their youth. There's romantic misunderstandings in Ai Shite Knight, the main character's death in the first episode of Yu Yu Hakusho and Detective Conan kicking off a mystery that's lasted 22 years and counting. Who are those magnificent men in their flying machines? Why it's Brian and Anthony from Dynamite In The Brain, forming up on the wing with our own Dwayne to jaw about Studio Ghibli's paean to the pig-headed pilot Porco Rosso. Well, it's more of a dogfight really as two of the hosts make a vain attempt to dissuade the other from his wayward thoughts.
