Show #75: NIGELLLL!

The gargantuan Greg Driver stomps into our most hallowed vaults. We must flee! But not before we tell the world of Godzilla - The Series!

Godzilla has returned from the depths to the cinema screens of the West and so our thoughts are cast back to 1998's Roland Emmerich disaster-piece and this spin-off cartoon series. Using the film as a jumping off point Godzilla focuses on what makes the big galoot so much fun to watch; namely giant monster brawls, widespread destruction and aliens bent on world domination via hypnotised kaiju. Adelaide Studios and Fil Barlow are a perfect fit for the series, letting the art department run wild with a menagerie of massive menaces of escalating weirdness that turn the monster-of-the-week formula into a huge selling factor rather than a deterrence.

(WARNING: Recording was somewhat messed up and has been fixed as best as possible but is still pretty butt. Listener discretion is advised.)

Show #39: Staring Into The Eyes Of A Cow

The galaxy is under threat from less-than-stellar anime adaptations of Western properties. Can Mass Effect: Paragon Lost save the day?

Unfortunately, not really. Mass Effect: Paragon Lost is content to tow the line of its forbears and produce a feature which is simply "good enough", which is a huge shame considering the material it has to work with. A diverse galaxy teeming with different races and cultures, rich in history with much opportunity to explore characters and the moral quandaries the games are famous for. Instead we get a fairly straightforward action piece featuring a cast we don't really get to know or indeed feel attached to which ultimately leaves us wanting. For the die-hard Mass Effect fans only.

Show #34: Dude Just Loves Tentacles

By the time MIB TV got to it's third season it was comfortably set up as the sci fi police procedural it was striving to be; car chases, shootouts, pumping informants for information, rival agents in Lethal Weapon style partnerships who (never) get results and all this while having to answer to the Chief AND the Alien Mayor. Sure this means the show might stick to a pretty safe formula but with that comes a consistent level of quality in both story and visuals. To a paraphrase a great man, they make this look good!

Show #19: Potato Factory?!

Demon sorcerors tearing up your city? Vampire hiding in your coffee table? Chupacabra snacking on your goats? If the answer is yes don't wait another minute. Turn on your television or computer and watch Jackie Chan Adventures Season 2!

From prehistoric icemen to crazed druids, supernatural art thieves to dark wizards, this season sure bombards the viewer with a whole lot of stuff although due to it's insane length not all of it is the greatest. This does however give the show plenty of time to cover as many cultural stereotypes as possible!

Show #7: You're Under Arrest For Being A Krogan

Agents N and D from Cartoon Podcasts, Division 6, assuring you there are no aliens to be found here. Only an audio recording of two human males talking about seasons 1 and 2 the 1997 animated series Men In Black. Now stare at this little light here...

Another title from our old friends Adelaide Studios, home of marvelous creature designs, Men In Black takes the premise from the well-known live action film and creates the only sensible thing; a police procedural drama with aliens and ray guns. A well realised world is let down by sometimes lazy animation and eventually too many episodes with annoying side characters. It's bevy of crazy sci-fi ideas more than makes up for all that however.
