Martin Schneider of Breaking Mayberry goes back to school with us on a very special episode of SOTSM, where we all learn a valuable lesson about this early work from animation auteurs Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Now well-renowned as curators of comedy both cartoon and corporeal, Clone High featured a decidedly unique premise that deftly married their love of historical humour and angsty teen drama. With a revival of the series imminent on Comedy Central is there anything present in the past worth carrying on into the future? Hunger strikes, deep Conquistador cuts and our best(?) John F. Kennedy impressions make the grade, earning us a well deserved Post-Podcast Repaste from the school canteen!

Show #117: MTV's Downtown
If you can have a podcast about a podcast, why not a conversation about a show about people having conversations? Kristina helps us navigate the lackadaisical labyrinth of MTV's Downtown!

We're no strangers to the more unique animated fare offered by MTV in the 90s, but Downtown is a lesser known work that deserves a lot more notice. Emotionally and socially resonant even now it is extraordinary how much effort has gone into expressing and capturing mere mundanity so perfectly. We talk about mistakes of youth, wayward life direction, pop culture attitudes then & now and the giddy thrill of Dinosaur Dentist.

Show #74: The Chandler Bing Shirt
Jake Bourke joins us at the popular table to jam about how totally fetch Daria is.

A podcast long in the offing, and we devote nearly as much time to our appreciation of another of those rare quality programmes that MTV used to produce. Looking at suburban teenage life through an acerbic and satirical lens Daria examines a wide variety of subjects in a frank and refreshing manner. It's so effective that we recommend that it be compulsory viewing for any adolescent. Also, in what is becoming a running theme, Jake declares his affections for yet another cartoon woman.

Show #32: XXtreme Characters
Finally getting his day in the sun of the savage outback of the mind, we finally get around to talking about The Maxx!
Click Here To Download (Right Click, Save As)
Gritty, grimy, a little dark & brooding but somewhat endearing, the Maxx hails from a time when MTV functioned as an outlet for less mainstream and more experimental creative works rather than the sludge pit where dignity goes to die that it has become today. Based on a comic of the same name by Sam Kieth this animated adaptation just scratches the surface of the Maxx universe and offers a refreshingly ponderous alternative to regular cartoon superhero antics.
This podcast is mostly vague about plot details as your viewing will be informed and enhanced significantly by whatever meaning you take from it yourself. However! Certain plot details are alluded to at the 48 minute mark, so those who wish to go in clean would be wise to skip to the end at that point!
